February is the longest shortest month. Though the days are getting longer, the grey clings, and it can feel hopeless. The best antidote for the blues is being with others.
Join me for four Sundays in February for the Anti-Depression Joural Club. Bring your sketchbook, journal, or laptop, for time to write (or draw! or collage! Or dictate voice memos!) about all the things that are bringing you down AND all the things that are lifting you up. Not a replacement for therapy but space to spill all that ails you onto paper, surrounded by friendly faces. This is an opportunity to dump all the feelings onto paper, leaving yourself a little lighter for the week.
Each week we will follow the same format: a quick check in, 30 minutes to write about what’s troubling us, a break to shake out the darkness, and 30 minutes to write about what carries us. We will close with a bit of good news. Follow the prompts or journal as you like for the time allotted. Participants are encouraged to work in the format that is most beneficial to them: writing, drawing, collage, are all welcome.
Disclaimer: I am not a therapist, but a teaching artist. This space is for writing, or making art, about difficult feelings, though work will not be shared or discussed.
no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Payments will be take via venmo or paypal only.
(please register here, and then pay)
I will be splitting the class fees equally between: myself, The New Orleans Family Food Distro, and the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition.
your favorite sketchbook, laptop, journal, and a glass of water to stay hydrated.
PLEASE NOTE: this class is NOT recorded. You are welcome to join anytime during the month, but there are no videos of previous sessions.
Cancellation policy: if you must withdraw from the class after signing up, you will be credited towards a future class with 72 hours notice. If you must withdraw without 72 hours notice, your payment is forfeited. Please contact hello@hopeamico.com with any questions. If a minimum number of students have not signed up one week before the class is scheduled to start, the class will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund.
