What’s cooking in your art making and why does it work? Have a collage practice but want to discover more about your own personal style? In the college test kitchen, we will discuss, discover, and assemble ingredients to create cohesive work with a distinctive voice, experimenting and investigating until we find a winning combination..
In our first session, we will discuss and explore ways to sift out a few key ingredients for our work, through studying other artists, and exploring our own. Our search for “ingredients” may include recurring colors, textures, materials, shapes, or other elements, in any artwork we enjoy and/or create.
In the following two sessions, we will start cooking with our ingredients! Expect time to work and time to share and discuss. We will mix and match from the materials we gathered, discovering new combinations, creating work with a singular aesthetic. The challenge of creating work with restricted materials can be a freeing and inspiring approach to art making.
This is an opportunity to explore your creative voice, and learn about your own work.
Students will gain a generative approach to collage making that can be applied to other mediums, and adjusted with experience and time. Exercises will be helpful for being able to speak broadly about your work, recognize patterns and connections in a body of work, and provide strategies for working when feeling stuck.
Students will provide their choice of collage materials.
