"Is This Art?" Collage Workshop LAID BACK SUMMER version

$460.00

ONLINE class series

every other Tuesday June 10- August 19*

5-7 pm PST

online and recorded

An introduction to collage tailored for the summer time! We will meet six times over the summer—twice a month, with lots of time for vacations, sunsets, naps, and spontaneous road trips. Classes are recorded in case you miss one.

BONUS ! Three Study Hall sessions (dates TBD) , 90 minutes to collage together without lessons, just time to make (or catch up on homework!)

Maybe you remember a cut and paste project from elementary school, trimming photos from magazines and sticking them to poster board. Maybe you’ve seen the color paper cut outs of Matisse. Or maybe you heard about a conference for collage artists in New Orleans in July (Kolaj Fest!) .

Whatever your experience, the accessibility and versatility of collage has led to an explosion of popularity. For artists of any medium, it offers a quick, experimental approach to making work, with few of the confines of a detailed process. For people who don’t think they are creative enough for art but want an outlet, collage is a forgiving and exciting format.

In this 6 week workshop, we will explore many approaches to collage and making artwork using our hands and without needing to draw.

We will start with the basics: cutting and gluing, & exploring the elements of a composition, discussing multiple approaches to background, middleground and foreground as we create a body of experimental works.

This class is open to all levels of adult students, whether you haven’t taken an art class since high school, or if you are a working artist looking for a new medium. Collage can be a freeing, fresh way of creating compositions, whether they stand on their own or become sketches for other work. This class is meant to be a catalyst to (re-) discovering your creative practice.

The fee for this class is $460 $360 if you register by May 1.

A small packet of materials will be shipped to students but students will be expected to provide basic, easy to obtain materials. A full list of materials will be explained in the first class.

Payment plans are offered liberally: 4 monthly payments of $115

To pay with a payment plan, please register here.

Discounts offered in solidarity with folks who self-identity as part of a marginalized group: use the following codes at check out:
