Keep Writing no. 184 August 2024

Long form response about something you believed as a kid.

Juli Jumprope tabled next to me at Chicago ZineFest in 2018 or 2019. We talked about Amtrak. I love their monthly newsletter, so when she was looking for folks to participate and share newsletters, I was in!

I love the format of Keep Writing, but it also feels good to try new things. But it sure gave me a headache! I wanted recipients to be able to mail something back without an envelope AND I didn’t want to pay for extra postage.

In the end, I had a one color, two sided, two page newsletter—a short essay about what I though about gender as a kid, and then a page for recipients to respond with a story about something they believed as a kid. It was pretty great to see long form responses from folks.

Oh, I also sent the newsletter to Juli’s mailing list, but their response cards were a different color. I was trying to use up my stash of riso paper!

Risograph printed at @outletpdx, I think? Sometimes I can’t remember what I printed where.

If you want a card like this mailed to you every month, you can subscribe to Keep Writing here.
