Keep Writing no. 180 April 2024

Send a postcard to a friend.

When Torea sent me a song because the chorus was something I had been repeating, I had no idea it would be Angie McMahon would be the only music I would listen to all winter.

From the all piano Salt for winter nights, then listening track by track to Light Dark Light Again, I listened, made collage and cried.

On a whim I checked for a US tour and bought myself a ticket to a show in March, having no idea it would sell out.

It was my first live music post-concussion, having missed a Hurray for the Riff Raff show because of headaches.

I made it. And it was transcendent. The music, the kind crowd, the affirmations. When she encouraged us to shout the chorus “I’M ALREADY ENOUGH” we did. And I knew what I wanted to do for the next postcard.

This time, I made it a card you can send to someone who might need to hear it because I have never heard of someone receiving encouragement from a friend and saying “no thanks, I didnt need that.”

Special thanks to the friend who sent one back to me. Because I am great at giving the advice I need.

Two color risograph printed at @outletpdx, inspired by colors from their yearly calendar which is both beautiful and a great tool.
