Keep Writing no. 178 February 2024
What are you grieving?
As sometimes happens, I had a plan for this card, a totally different theme and image. But with the murder of non-binary student Nex Benedict, the starvation of Palestinians in Gaza and and the suicide as protest of Aaron Bushnell, I couldn’t. I struggle with how to share this heartbreak, in a way that is sincere, respectful, informed and hopefully timeless, even as my initial response is reactionary. I am often fighting my own nature in this. How do we talk about global events and feel them personally? How do we contextualize personal events?
Thank goodness for Andrea Gibson, poet laureate of Colorado and wordsmith with timely insight to share.
Two color risograph printed at Independent Publishing Resource Center in Portland.
