Keep Writing no. 147 July 2021

“I can’t wait until things get back to normal and I can _______ again.”

Oof. Too soon.

I had a plan for the July card, but on the way to the studio to design it, I was catcalled on my bike. And everything felt normal for a minute.

This was soon after my first vaccination shot and I was optimistic.

However, I started printing these in July, late because the full time job was wearing me out.

The second color wasn’t printed until August because I was recovering from a head injury.

They were mailed the first week of September, with a note to mail them back when it seemed appropriate; in the months since I had the idea, Covid rates spiked, folks refused to get vaccinated and then attended large weddings and family gatherings. I was still recovering from the head injury (it would take over a year to stabilize) and was significantly less hopeful than when I first thought of this design.

The best response I received was from my pal Anna (Brick Factory Design) with just the word NOPE.

Printed with polymer plates on my Heidelberg Windmill on paper from French Paper Co.
