Exquisite Corpse

Drawn and printed as part of an art show at EM Wolfman in Oakland.

For about two years, I met with a few other artists to share work. We called ourselves subset, and though we met at a paper making conference, we were printers, bookbinders, and sculptors. Present day we are a community letterpress collaborator, a high school art teacher, a conservation specialist, a pilates instructor, and me.

We created work for our show by bringing unfinished work to our meetings, which we traded based on interest. Our rules for collaboration included the allowance that anyone may alter any work, including through destruction.

The work we generated was weird and fun. As a warm up at one of our meetings, we creates exquisite corpse drawings, each one of us starting a drawing, then passing it folded over, until we had created four oddball monsters. I letterpress printed them and we sold them as part of our show.

Of course I made a postcard about it.

Letterpress printed with polymer plates on paper from French Paper on a borrowed Heidelberg Windmill.
