BFA Show Artist Statement

Woo-ee! The first show of postcards and responses and a lot more work than I needed to do as an undergrad.

The artist statements were printed on handmade paper made with stuff subscribers sent me (see #29). Printed with a polymer plate, probably at Blackbird Letterpress.

The show also included large works that were assembled from prints I made, handmade paper and included elements of the Keep Writing cards. I also built nine hot air balloons out of handmade paper, which carried responses to each card in their baskets, so viewers could read them. Megan Singleton and her partner did all the lighting , Ellen Ogden came and hung a bunch of tiny hot air balloons from the ceiling. Iron Design LLC allowed me to use a huge chunk of his metal shop (which occasionally hosted shows and was dubbed “the ephemeral gallery”). He also put beams in place in the ceiling to accommodate my diagonal design.

There was also a wall of prints because I was a printmaking major. I did not have any editions, only variations made from different combinations of many plates screens and stones. It was my print professors nightmare AND he told me I did a great job.

Too many people helped to thank them all—this was all set up in 2 days and removed the following day.
